About Empathy

Hello. My name is Johnathan Falk. I am the founder, and sole employee of Empathy. This web site was created as a way to get my message, and mission to a larger audience, and increase the effectiveness of communication between people while I'm away. Empathy is what the people of our planet need. I am practicing it, and inviting others to put themselves in my shoes, and the skin of impoverished people across the globe.

MISSION

Empathy is a young writer/videographer's quest through out Asia and India to record not only the circumstantial evidence, but also the mind frame of the people. My mission is to preserve a "picture" of our planet from the perspective of a humble human. This will increase global compassion, understanding, and awareness by providing a window of unbiased truth. This crucial "snapshot" will be a contribution to the future generations, and serve as a historical, media resource. I want people to empathize with each other.

VISION

I envision Empathy as a medium through which a global audience can experience travel, and countries in a unique and new way. Traveling for me isn't a vacation it is an education. A valuable undertaking which, can benefit a myriad of others. Week by week I hope people will sign into my website and feel part of my project, intimately connected and voyeuristically coming along for the journey. The aim of Empathy is to elevate compassion and understanding by providing real documentation from a basic, humble, human level. Empathy is not a corporation, a company, a capitalistic endeavor, or a joy ride. It is a sincere attempt at presenting truthful material to a worldwide audience. I am letting Westerners see what they won't normally have the opportunity to see, and I am giving a voice and attention to the people who need it the most.

HISTORY

I have been traveling since January 2000 off and on and have covered North America extensively. The next destination is Asia and the Indian Subcontinent. My traveling aspirations have evolved to encompass various other aims and aspects, all of which occurred in the summer of 2001. I began emailing people I met, family, and friends large letters from the main places I visited on the road. The list continued to expand and get bigger, while compliments and interest increased as well. The name "Empathy" came about in the fall of 2001 as the term to describe what I am experiencing as I travel, and what I hope to foster in the minds and hearts of others. Empathy gained non-profit 501 (c) status in November 2001 by becoming a member of Social and Environmental Entrepreneurs.

A Dreamer

I am a dreamer, I admit it. I am envisioning something larger than me. Fantastic and memorial. I see a future where our children see no distinction between skin color, language barrier, or continental location. Where through equality, shared resources, education and consciousness, we truly embark on the third millennium as stewards of our planet.

Communication

Miscommunication leads to much of the havoc, turmoil, and suffering we all share. Whether between a teenager and their parents, an employee and their boss, or political leaders, misunderstanding invariably leads to further discourse and affliction. Imagine cutting the percentage of miscommunication in half. How much misery would be saved? What if it was mandatory to learn the skills of empathetic dialogue and clear communication in grammar school?
